Search Engine Optimization or SEO is the process of arranging the content and relationship of a given website in such a way as to maximize the way search engines perceive the site when a user performs a search using certain key words and phrases.

There are several things to bear in mind when creating the SEO strategy for a given site:

A guaranteed ranking or page position within a given search engine is 100% impossible to guarantee.

Careful planning and research combined with realistic targeted objectives can almost always yield real results

Continuous monitoring and adapting of the sites SEO is vital. Think of it this way. You SEO a site and gain top position in Google. If you do nothing and a competitor changes his SEO you will loose your position to him eventually.

Many many larger companies who should know better neglect their SEO. This means it is actually possible to “steel” a competitors ranking and they will not notice for some time. Then they must play catchup. This gives the small agile firm willing to keep on top of the SEO a much larger chance of good results than might at first be thought when competing with “the big boys”.

Many sites make the basic mistake of thinking all they need to do is create a page or two with lists of keywords and that will do it. Wrong!. Most modern search engines employ extremely sophisticated Artificial Intelligence routines combined with Language Awareness to spot such brash attempts to fool them. Most will not only not be fooled they will actively lower your ranking as “punishment” some offenses will get a site dropped all together.

Effective SEO is not just about the web site. Getting a good search engine placement revolves around knowing where to maximize both effort and finances. It is entirely possible to spend hundreds of thousands on expensive keywords and so called experts. The results however, usually, do not even pay the costs — or if they do it takes an excessive amount of time to do so. The key is to research first, find what works for the competition and then find ways to use that to your advantage. Find a “backdoor”.

Beware the so called “Black hat” SEO “experts”. Using ideas and concepts that are obviously immoral or “against the game” will simply get you banned. Yes Banned! From the worlds search engines. They are accountable to no one, they make the rules. Play by them and profit — break them and …

But what of the man himself ? Today I am writing this not because of the amazing modern designs, gadgets and world changing idioms that he has give us all. No, today this is a very personal note of respect and admiration for Mr Jobs.

You see, he was diagnosed with cancer some 2 years ago and recently underwent a liver transplant as a result. After going through this life changing event he then appears at a key Apple conference urging the audience to become organ donors.

I too suffer from a serious liver condition that may one day also require a transplant for me to go on. To know one is suffering from such a condition and to then refuse to lie down and give up demands respect. To actively use the opportunity to further the cause in order to selflessly help others you do not even know is truly the mark of a great Man. Steve Jobs.
